The Secret of Reflecting for Indie Biz Owners

Make your next moves based on your own experiences

Happy new year Indie Rollers!

I’m going to dive straight in and share with you all one of my favourite resources – a reflection sheet.

Last year, reflecting on my own experiences and feelings became an essential part of my monthly planning routine for the business. It’s like the opposite of asking for advice in a Facebook group or reading somebody else’s step-by-step guide. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that you, like me, already know the answers to your questions somewhere deep inside and perhaps a quick monthly ritual could help you reveal the answers?

Worth a shot?

I’ve created a very simple downloadable pdf to get you started. As it’s January, you could use this sheet to reflect on 2019 or perhaps you’d prefer to reflect on a shorter period like the Christmas season? Whatever you decide the same questions will work a treat at the end of each month before you plan the month ahead.

Look back to move forward – sounds a bit Coldplay doesn’t it but please bear with me!

The secret to reflecting… do it quickly so you don’t overthink it.

Set a timer on your phone for 10 minutes and don’t spend a moment longer on it. There are no right or wrong answers; write what you feel in the moment and try not to judge. Let your pen hit the page and write.

That’s it. Nothing more is required. See what comes up for you in the coming days and tweak your goals or actions accordingly. I’ll give you a nudge at the end of the month so we can reflect on January.

I recently read through my reflection sheets from 2019 and I was amazed to see how far I’ve come in a year.
