Hi I'm Katie and my background is in constructed textiles but since leaving University have realised that my calling is in print design. I started my own independent brand in 2013 mainly making and sewing bunting but with a twist by using unique print and typography slogans. My niche market for bunting is in cycling and tennis bunting with special events sets of bunting designed for VE Day or Royal Weddings and celebrations.
I get a lot of inspiration from the weird and whacky through to William Morris, the Fauvist and Surrealist movements, Sixties and Seventies, typography, pop art, David Hockney, Orla Kiely, Vivienne Westwood and all my contemporary fellow artists and designers.
Since selling bunting, I realised that I like to be quite diverse as I get bored too quickly making limited products and so started getting into repeat design and taught myself photoshop and setting up files for repeat patterns for fabric. I have always had a bit of a thing for cushions, they are such a simple but effective way to update a room or look so I was ecstatic to get my repeat pattern designs back from the printers and started making cushions to sell.
I am also a massive lover of quirky fashion so it only made sense that I started taking an interest into printing onto my own clothes and then to sell to others. I have recently started looking into making and sewing my own clothes using fabric I have designed and these are currently in development but I am very excited to share these soon. Another little penchant is handbags..... watch this space!
And just recently I have found making and printing fabric wall hangings a great way to get an idea out into reality and use it develop other products.
