Trudi Bridgeman Design

Indie Biz ownerTrudi Bridgeman

I am Trudi and I live and work on the beautiful Isle of Wight. The glorious coastline is a constant inspiration and is reflected in my work. I design and make colourful mini wooden beach huts, coastal themed harbour and beach scenes, driftwood art and quality hand made cards. The variety of beach huts around the Island have always been a fascination for me. On my local beach, the huts have been made from the old Victorian Bathing Machines and remain unique to Ventnor. These iconic huts were my first inspiration and I used some of the old broken deckchair wood given to me by my very good friend (whose family have run the beach concession since 1830) to create my initial designs. Having spent many summers with her on the beach I wanted to capture and celebrate:t he traditions of the British seaside, happy times and holiday memories, and create pieces that would be treasured for years to come. Alongside the deckchair wood I use reclaimed timber and pieces of driftwood collected locally. I collect a bag of rubbish for every bag of driftwood taken from the beach.
Each of my pieces is unique and carefully handcrafted to include many interesting details: some are finished with genuine coloured paper deckchair ticket bunting (originally issued by Ventnor's Longshoremen). Beach sand, shingle and shells are often added, some pieces have quirky handcrafted clay seagulls too. Other pieces have additional interesting objects found along the way. The huts make the perfect gift or addition to a beach themed home, some are bought as a special wedding or birthday gift and can be personalised to match any occasion. I take commissions and this is becoming popular with beach hut owners and those who share the passion for beach huts around the world. Please pop by to see these colourful creations and relive some happy holiday memories.
